TOPIC : HINDU NAV VARSH
Hindu Nav Varsh, also known as Nav Samvatsar or Hindu New Year is celebrated in various regions of India and Nepal. The story behind this celebration is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and tradition. According to Hindu mythology, the creation of the universe is attributed to Lord Brahma, the god of creation. It is believed that Brahma created the universe on the day of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, which marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year. This day is also known as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Ugadi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and Cheti Chand in Sindhi communities. Another significant legend associated with Hindu Nav Varsh is the story of Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana and completing his 14 years of exile. His return was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm by lighting diyas (oil lamps) and bursting firecrackers. This event is commemorated as Diwali, which coincides with the Hindu New Year in some regions. In addition to these mythological stories, the Hindu calendar, which is lunisolar, is based on the positions of the sun and the moon. The Hindu New Year falls on the first day of the waxing phase of the moon in the month of Chaitra, which usually occurs in March or April according to the Gregorian calendar. The celebration of Hindu Nav Varsh involves various rituals and customs. People clean their homes, decorate them with colorful rangolis, patterns made with colored powders and offer prayers to seek blessings for prosperity and good fortune in the coming year. They also exchange sweets and gifts with friends and family, wear new clothes, and partake in festive meals. Hindu Nav Varsh is a time of renewal, reflection and optimism, symbolizing the beginning of a new cycle of life and the triumph of good over evil. It serves as an occasion for people to come together, strengthen familial bonds and celebrate the richness of their cultural heritage.
